Okay, this will be an easy lesson for you guys, whether you’ve played a while, or are just starting. Remember the C chord we all know and love?
Well, now we’re going to find some other cool sounds with that shape. Take your C Chord and move it up two frets and you’ll get Daddsus:
What do you think? Dissonant? (For a less altered sound, you can also add the pinky on A/fifth fret on the highest string). It’s a long name, but you can just call it “D” if you want. Try it for “D” with other chords when playing a song in the key of G, where it works best. You might end up liking it when you’re used to it. Use it lead to other chords. Try playing C and Daddsus back and forth, then you’ll get the idea. (Note: Be careful with Daddsus if you play with other instruments like a piano, because notes can clash.)
E Minor
Okay, now here’s the fun part. Check this out. Take that same C shape and move it up FIVE frets. Then you’ll get a beautiful open E minor sound:
Putting it all together
Now try playing the new E minor, then Daddsus, then C, then back to E minor. Cool, huh?
Now play ’em loud. Have a blast.
